I have been waiting by the lake so long the reeds have learned my shape. The

dissolved into nothing. My black dress pools around me like spilled ink. Only the cat
came with me; only the cat understands that some waiting has no end and asks for
none. I watch the still water for a boat, a face, a sign. None comes. I stay anyway,
tender with the emptiness.
