Identity rarely exists as a whole. It is built from memories, experiences, perceptions and versions of ourselves that accumulate over time. In this work, the portrait is physically divided into multiple panels, turning the face into a discontinuous composition where each element seems to exist autonomously and, simultaneously, depend on the whole.
Structural fragmentation is reinforced by the pixelated intervention that traverses the image like a reading error or an area of incomplete information. The observer is confronted with a face that is revealed and hidden at the same time, forcing them to mentally reconstruct what cannot be seen in its entirety.
Between human representation and digital language, “Fragment” explores how contemporary identity is constantly divided between the physical and the virtual, between what we show and what remains inaccessible. The work suggests that the notion of unity may be an illusion and that we are, in reality, a collection of parts in permanent reconstruction.
The separation between the panels creates empty spaces that become as important as the image itself. It is within these intervals that doubt, memory and interpretation arise, inviting the observer to complete what is missing.
