Description from the seller
An Expected Encounter. 2026
Mixed media on wood
90 × 90 cm
Description of the work
"An Expected Encounter" is part of the series “Cartography of Interdependence,” and represents the recent pictorial research of the Valencian visual artist Jesús Poveda. In this work the artist offers a critical revisiting of the avant-garde movements of the 20th century, articulated through his own contemporary visual language.
In this piece the harmonious coexistence of figurative elements, geometric patterns, and symbols reinterpretations drawn from digital visual culture stands out; a hybridization that places the image on a threshold suspended between memory, imagination, and the artist's inner sensibility. The central human figure, deliberately devoid of identifiable traits, rises as a universal, open archetype. This timelessness invites the viewer to become an active agent, projecting onto the canvas their own dynamics of relationship, otherness, and belonging.
About the Artist
Jesús Poveda is a Spanish visual artist who lives and works from his studio in Valencia. After a solid career of more than fifteen years as a professional graphic designer, his university training sparked a deep interest in contemporary art and visual thought. By around 2011 he began materializing his first works and exhibitions.
His artistic production sits at the exact intersection between analog and digital. Poveda articulates painting practice by combining traditional techniques of the craft with methodological processes derived from graphic design. Currently, his investigations develop through pictorial series where the canvas is conceived from visual thinking. This approach endows his pieces with a symbolic, magnetic, and recognizable language that asserts the painter's craft as an act of resistance and deceleration against the excess of contemporary digital stimulation.
Since 2015, his work has been exhibited in various solo and group exhibitions within relevant cultural spaces, with a special focus on contexts linked to contemporary art and sustainability. In recent years, his career has experienced notable consolidation and professionalization.
