European manufacture of the 19th century; a framed panel embroidered in petit point with glass microbeads and synthetic seed beads, set in a contemporary wood and gold-painted frame, circa 1860–1880; dimensions 35 cm by 45 cm, weight 200 g.
Description from the seller
European Manufacture of the 19th century.
Panel embroidered in petit-point with inserts of Venetian glass microbeads and synthetic scaramazze pearls, within a contemporary frame.
Circa 1860 - 1880
Description:
The work shows a complex and felicitous synergistic execution between petit-point embroidery (half-kpoint) in wool and silk yarns and the raised application of Venetian glass microbeads (known as conterie) and hemispherical pearls (type scaramazze).
The ensemble revolves around a central multiform medallion, enclosed by elegant Baroque-inspired volutes in shades of crimson and silver. At the four corners stand large button-like motifs of exquisitely eclectic taste, dominated by a vivid cerulean blue and outlined by dense rows of pearls.
The object is presented within its contemporary frame in wood and gilded plaster, enriched by a rich ornamentation of festoons of laurel leaves and crossed ribbons in a Neoclassical style, bronzed gold with olive-green reflections.
