Description from the seller
Rare collection of six volumes of comedies by Francesco Augusto Bon (1788-1858), published in the first edition in Milan by the Typographia di Commercio in 1823 and preserved in elegant contemporaneous half-leather bindings with marbled boards. The works tackle themes typical of pre-unification Italian theater such as family, marriage, social relations, Gefühle and bourgeois morality, alternating comic and satirical elements.
An important testimony to the diffusion of Italian dramaturgy in the first half of the 19th century, the lot represents an interesting set of historical, literary, and collecting interest. The copies are generally in good condition for their age: spines with evident signs of wear and some leather losses, marbled boards with normal signs of time; interiors complete and well preserved, with generally fresh and clear pages, sporadic foxing and slight time stains, with no loose pages or significant structural defects.
A uniform and markedly charming antique ensemble, rare to find complete in its six original volumes.
Condition: discrete-to-good. Six volumes in contemporaneous half-leather bindings with marbled boards. Spines decorated in gold with evident signs of wear, abrasions and some small losses of leather, more pronounced on one volume. Boards and corners with normal signs of aging. Interiors complete and structurally solid, with pages generally fresh and clear and the presence of sporadic foxing and slight time stains. No loose pages or major structural defects. Volumes of pleasant collecting appearance.
