Willi DePré (born 1923) – "Bavarian Man with Pipe", oil on canvas, 1960
Impressive character portrait of an older Bavarian man with a traditional costume hat, adorned with chamois beard and edelweiss, smoking a long clay pipe. Strong, impressionistic brushwork with warm golden tones in the background that dramatically emphasize the face and the white full beard. Signed bottom left "DePré".
The painting is in very good, restored condition and has been newly framed
The frame – an elaborate, double-profile frame with a relief wicker pattern on the outside and a cream/gold inner trim – dates from the 1980s and is also in very good condition.
