Origin: After the decree of the Holy Council of Trent (Concilii Tridentini)
Papal milestones: Restored under Pope Pius V. Reformed under Pope Pius X. Published under the authority of Pope Benedict XV.
Edition: First edition following the Vatican template edition (Editio I Juxta Typicam Vaticanam)
Printing place: Regensburg (Ratisbonae)
Publisher: Friedrich Pustet (Sumptibus et Typis Friderici Pustet)
Year: 1920
Central motive: An ornate blind embossing of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
Cosmic symbols: Sun (left) and Moon (right) flank the Cross as symbols of Creation’s mourning.
Floral ornaments: From the ground beneath the Cross rise stylized tendrils and blossoms.
Fittings: Decorated metal corners made of silver or silvered metal protect the book from wear.
Closures: On the right side remnants of the metal book clasps can be seen.
Inscription: At the top in fracture-like letters “Missale,” at the bottom the word “Romanum.”
