Nine-piece Valceresio ceramic service from Italy, circa 1940–1950, entirely handmade and decorated with emerald green, terracotta and black abstract motifs, each piece signed on the underside.
Description from the seller
Signed Valceresio Ceramic Service, Italy, 1950s
An exceptional ten-piece ceramic service produced by Valceresio, Italy, during the flourishing years of post-war Italian artistic ceramics.
Entirely handcrafted and individually decorated, each piece features an expressive abstract motif rendered in rich emerald green, warm terracotta and fluid black brushstrokes. The boldly asymmetrical forms reflect the sculptural sensibility that defined much of Italy's most innovative ceramic production during the 1950s.
Originating from the Lombardy region, the Valceresio workshops gained recognition for their distinctive approach to decorative ceramics, combining traditional craftsmanship with the avant-garde spirit of the Mid-Century period. The present ensemble perfectly captures this aesthetic, balancing artistic freedom with remarkable technical refinement.
Comprising a harmonious collection of organically shaped bowls, serving dishes and vessels, the service transcends its original function to become a striking decorative statement. Each element bears the painted Valceresio signature to the underside, attesting to its authenticity and artisanal character.
A rare and highly decorative example of Italian studio ceramics, equally suited to sophisticated entertaining or display within a curated interior.
Italy, circa 1955–1965.
