Apotheosis – from the series of works “FLOATING”
This oil painting thematizes the state of detachment—a moment between earth and sky, between body and mind, between reality and transcendence. The three hovering female figures seem to be liberated from the laws of gravity and move freely through the space of a monumental dome architecture. This creates the impression of an inner liberation, a state in which boundaries are lifted and consciousness reaches new levels.
The circular architecture of the dome reinforces this impression. It evokes sacred spaces and points to perfection, unity, and infinity. The viewer’s gaze is drawn to the center of the image, where the figures are connected in a dynamic choreography. Despite their movement, they do not appear frantic but harmonious and weightless—as if carried by an invisible force.
Particularly the flowing fabrics play a central role. They partly dissolve the boundaries of the bodies and transform the figures into pure movement, energy, and color. The violet and pink tones create a poetic, almost dreamlike atmosphere. Violet traditionally stands for spirituality, transformation, and the connection between the tangible and the spiritual, while the lighter rose tones convey lightness, openness, and joie de vivre.
The perspective from below enhances the sense of elevation. The viewer looks up at the figures and is drawn into this hovering state. This creates a kind of visual meditation on freedom, trust, and devotion. The figures seem to neither fall nor actively fly—instead they exist in a state of complete being carried.
Within the series “FLOATING,” the painting can be understood as a symbol of those moments when people overcome inner heaviness and dissolve from fears, constraints, or societal expectations. The artist Neeharika Donau Hossain
Neeharika Donau Hossain studied painting at the University of Arts in Bremen. She further trained as a multimedia and web designer and is today active as a freelance artist, as initiator of cross-cultural projects, as a gallery owner, and also as an art teacher at the Kunstzentrum Farbenmeer in Bremen, which she has been running with her husband Onil Hossain since 2003.
Together the artist couple also create mural paintings for public and private clients at home and abroad, develop spatial concepts, and execute commissioned paintings such as portrait painting and book illustrations, etc.
Since 1992, various exhibitions and wall paintings in public spaces at home and abroad.
In her series Floating, the artist paints people in contemporary realism with elements of fantastic realism. She thematizes both the constraints of the human anatomy and the freedom we experience in our own body. Her figures are twisted, graceful, not bound, but free, unbounded, yet also without support. The faces are often concealed, leaving their expressions and emotions a secret. Their poses could represent pain as well as ecstasy. They could fall or fly.
The perspective elements she often employs serve as an extension of the figure, as a psychological space. In floating, the striving for unity is fulfilled and has come to rest. The striving is always moving toward its goal. Floating is the goal; it is the goal itself. It is moving stillness, a rest within motion."
