L'Immersion #1 does not take place at the surface. It takes place where light ceases to be light and becomes pattern, where the weight of the body disappears and where resistance, any resistance, becomes impossible.
Two nude men float beneath the water of a glass-domed pool. They hold each other with the force of those who have no other choice, their bodies intertwined, their skin crossed by refracted light descending from the surface in oblique shafts. A white cloth floats around them, loose, without origin or destination. It is not clothing that was removed. It is something left behind when they descended.
On the floor below, red petals settle slowly. They were not placed there by anyone visible. They arrived before, or perhaps they are what always exists at the bottom of things when someone lets go completely. Their colour is the only warm note in a scene of blue and white and skin.
The immersion of the title is not aquatic. It is the state in which two bodies no longer know where one ends and the other begins, in which the surface, with everything it represents, is too far away to matter.

The artwork explores themes such as surrender and the dissolution of self, intimacy as a state of total immersion, the loss of resistance, the beauty of what exists below the surface and the point at which two bodies become one, rendered through a contemporary figurative visual language with underwater light and classical compositional structure.
