Wooden, wall-mounted weather station from Sweden, dating to circa 1920–1930, featuring an open-faced aneroid barometer with Swedish labels and a Celsius thermometer, in good condition with minor signs of aging; measures 175 cm wide by 48 cm high by 45 cm deep and weighs 706 g.
Description from the seller
This is a handsome, vintage wall-mounted weather station featuring both an aneroid barometer and a Celsius thermometer. The instruments are set within a beautifully carved, dark wood (likely oak or stained beech) backplate. The wood features elegant, stylized foliate and geometric carvings that blend traditional European craftsmanship with hints of early 20th-century design.
The Instruments:
Barometer: The lower instrument is an open-faced aneroid barometer, allowing a clear view of the brass vacuum bellows and internal mechanical movements. It is framed by a polished brass bezel and covered with glass. The dial features weather indications written in Swedish:
Regn eller Blåst (Rain or Wind)
Ostadigt (Unsteady / Changeable)
Vackert Väder (Fair / Beautiful Weather)
Mycket Torrt (Very Dry)
Thermometer: The upper section houses a traditional mercury or alcohol-based glass tube thermometer, securely mounted to a white backplate with red and black numerals. It measures temperature in degrees Celsius (0 to 40+).
Age and Origin:
Origin: Sweden. The language on the barometer dial definitively points to a Swedish maker or a piece specifically manufactured for the Swedish market.
Estimated Age: Early to Mid-20th Century (Circa 1920s–1940s). The visible open mechanism and the specific style of the woodcarving are characteristic of European pieces from this era.
