Description from the seller
Deconstructed Self
MiLo (1976, The Netherlands)
This contemporary figurative composition explores the relationship between identity and form. Constructed from bold black contours and textured off-white surfaces, the figure emerges through a network of simplified shapes that balance abstraction and recognition. Fragmented yet coherent, the composition invites the viewer to consider how a sense of self can persist even when broken into separate elements.
The work draws inspiration from modernist and Cubist traditions while maintaining a distinctly contemporary character. Geometric divisions, graphic contrasts and carefully placed accents create a visual rhythm that guides the eye across the canvas. The figure remains intentionally open to interpretation, existing somewhere between portrait, symbol and archetype.
The restrained palette enhances the painting’s architectural presence, while the interplay of positive and negative space creates both tension and balance. As a result, the work encourages multiple readings, allowing viewers to project their own experiences and associations onto the image.
Acrylic on canvas.
The painting will be carefully packaged and shipped rolled in a sturdy tube or box.
