In “Burning Gaze,” Luis Enrique González presents a portrait of great intensity and presence. The chestnut horse emerges from a dark, deep background, illuminated by a warm light that highlights the richness of its coat and the strength of its gaze. The red bridle adds a vibrant splash of color that contrasts with the darkness of the background, generating an atmosphere of elegance and contained drama.
The work stands out for the emotional depth of the horse’s gaze. Its dark, expressive eyes seem to observe the viewer with serene yet powerful intelligence, as if they could see beyond what is visible. It is not an image of movement or action, but of pure presence. The animal conveys a mix of nobility, strength, and a quietness that is deeply moving.
González masterfully works the texture of the coat, the light reflections on the muzzle, and the details of the bridle, achieving a sensitive realism that allows us to feel both the physical beauty and the character of the horse. The black background intensifies the figure and creates an almost sculptural effect, turning this work into a study of the gaze, dignity, and the connection between the animal and the viewer.
Luis Enrique González has developed in recent years the series “Equestrian Essences,” in which he portrays different horses with the goal of capturing not only their appearance but their essence and individual character. Each work in this collection is characterized by a dramatic treatment of light and background, seeking to reveal the personality and soul of each animal. “Burning Gaze” is part of this series, which is distinguished by its emotional realism and its ability to generate a deep connection between the viewer and the horse.
A piece with great visual impact and depth, ideal for collectors seeking contemporary figurative art with strength, elegance, and a strong emotional charge.
The artwork is carefully shipped protected in a transportation tube to ensure its perfect preservation.
Artist Statement — Luis Enrique González
My work is a constant dialogue between light and form, where oil painting becomes a medium to explore the emotional and symbolic depth of reality. I am interested in nature and the human figure not only as visual motifs, but as living territories charged with stories, silences, and tensions. Through realism, I seek to reveal what is hidden in the everyday: fragility, strength, persistence, and the beauty that manifest in gestures, in matter, and in the spaces we inhabit.
Chiaroscuro is, for me, a tool of thought. Through contrast, I find the internal structure of each image, the atmosphere that allows color to breathe and become protagonist. I work with meticulous observation, trying to ensure that every brushstroke preserves the sensitivity of the moment and, at the same time, a permanence that transcends the temporality of the represented object.
My pieces sit at a crossroads between academic tradition and a contemporary gaze, where rigorous technique coexists with a personal expressive search. I paint because I find in oil a space of revelation: a way to understand the world and at the same time reinvent it through light, texture, and color.
