Description from the seller

Georges‑Louis Leclerc, Comte de Buffon — Natural History — Royal Printing — 1760–1780

Dimensions: 10x16.5 cm
Approximately 7000 pages

Partially complete set of 16 volumes, comprising:

• 12 volumes of the main corpus
• 4 volumes of the Birds series

Volumes missing in the main corpus: 2, 5 and 6

I offer you this 16-volume set of Buffon’s Natural History, handed down in my family for four generations.

They belonged to my great‑grandfather, and still bear the authentic patina of the 18th century: old bindings, period paper, traces of time that tell their own story.

An ancient handwritten poem, slipped into one of the volumes, accompanies the lot.
This poetic text, penned with a quill, testifies to the deep attachment to these works and adds patrimonial value.

A rare heritage, carefully preserved, which gives the set a historical and sentimental dimension.

A piece of history, passed from hand to hand, ready to continue its own story.

Royal Printing Edition

This edition is distinguished by:

• the quality of its printing
• its scientific importance
• its foundational role in French naturalist thought

Contents

• Full text in Old French
• Black-and-white plates and tables in the volumes concerned
• Incomplete but coherent, homogeneous, very presentable set

Condition

Old bindings in generally good condition, wear from use, headcaps sometimes worn.
Interior clean for its age, sound paper, sturdy volumes, time traces that tell their own story.
Very handsome decorative set for a library.

Shipping

The books will be packed with the utmost care, protected volume by volume, and shipped securely.
