Overlapping worlds, oil on canvas. NOTE: in the description in the fields filled above, the dimensions refer to the canvas once it is framed. The dimensions of the entire canvas to be cut for the frame, including the unpainted parts (as shown in the photo), are: 68x35 cm. The framed canvas will be about 40x30 cm, in my opinion. It is possible to extend it a little at the buyer's discretion.
The painting is dated and signed on the back. A certificate of authenticity will be sent by email anyway.
The painting is finished with a final protective varnish. I use only non-toxic materials.

Just as the onion is formed from multiple concentric layers, reality is not singular or superficial, but is made up of infinite overlapping strata. Beneath the visible surface lie deeper levels. The figure's eyes, without well-defined pupils and almost fused with the background color, suggest a gaze turned inward, capable of perceiving beyond material reality. The figure is not looking at the world, but contemplating invisible worlds. The onion held between the fingers becomes the microcosm of a complex universe, a reminder that human experience is a continuous journey through the multiple layers of consciousness and truth.

About me: Barbara Bartolomei is a professional painter and educator who trained at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze. Her artistic research moves in a balance between mastery of traditional Renaissance techniques studied at the Sacred Art School in Florence and a conceptual investigation into visual perception and the philosophy of the image. Through a figurative language, her works explore the subtle boundary between tangible reality and the inner dimension.
