Description from the seller
This imposing Japanese traditional four-panel screen, imbued with the charm of Eastern aesthetics, features a majestic tiger as its central theme, complemented by rugged rocks and verdant bamboo, showcasing a rich Japanese painting style.
The tiger emerges proudly from among the rocks, its sharp gaze and dignified expression suggesting it may leap through the screen at any moment. The rocks are rendered with bold, powerful ink strokes, interspersed with bamboo leaves, creating a harmonious balance of strength and gentleness. The work is characterized by ample negative space and a grand composition, possessing both the freehand spirit of ink painting and the powerful, protective connotations of samurai culture.
The screen is constructed with a wooden frame, its surface hand-painted, while the back is covered with exquisite fabric adorned with traditional geometric patterns, exuding an elegant texture. The frame retains the original copper decorative fittings, demonstrating meticulous attention to detail and showcasing the beauty of traditional Japanese craftsmanship.
In Japanese culture, the tiger symbolizes courage, authority, warding off evil and bringing good fortune, as well as prosperity; bamboo represents perseverance and continuous advancement. Therefore, tiger and bamboo motifs have always been highly favored by samurai families, daimyo, and collectors.
