AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

PUROS is a 70 x 100 cm painting by Flavia Delgado that celebrates the slow ritual of enjoyment, conversation and contemplation. Inspired by the aesthetics of classic advertising posters and the visual language of Pop Art, the work transforms a moment of leisure by the sea into an iconic image of elegance, tradition and sensory pleasure.

The composition places the viewer in first person. Two hands hold the protagonists of the scene: a lit cigar and a glass of whisky with ice. On the wooden table rests an ashtray with another cigar slowly burning, while a column of smoke rises, drawing sinuous shapes that stand out against the blue sky. In the background, the calm sea and a large golden sun descending over the horizon complete an atmosphere of absolute calm.

The color palette combines deep blues, bright yellows, warm browns and deep blacks. The contrast between flat colors and expressive lines gives a strong graphical presence that recalls mid-20th-century illustrated ads, while maintaining a contemporary sensibility. The image feels direct, elegant and full of personality.

Beyond the objects depicted, the work speaks of an attitude toward life. The cigar and whisky appear as symbols of quiet celebration, of time devoted to conscious enjoyment and of those moments when the clock seems to lose importance. The scene does not convey excess or ostentation, but an invitation to pause, observe the landscape and enjoy the small pleasures that accompany a memorable conversation or an ocean-front sunset.

The close perspective makes the viewer the protagonist of the moment. The railing, the horizon and the sun create a sense of journey, evoking ship decks, ocean-side terraces or private clubs where time moves at a slower pace. The rising smoke adds a almost meditative component, reinforcing the contemplative atmosphere of the work.

With a powerful and evocative aesthetic, PUROS captures the union between landscape, tradition and personal enjoyment, turning an everyday moment into an image full of character, sophistication and serenity.

Seller's Story

I present a pictorial work line strongly linked to illustration and artistic poster design. My works combine the language of classic poster art with the plastic freedom of contemporary painting: flat colors, defined contours, direct scenes, and a clear narrative sense. My work dialogues with the tradition of 20th-century poster art, especially with the universe of Art Deco and European and North American advertising posters, where authors like A. M.. Cassandre, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, and Leonetto Cappiello used synthetic imagery and color for visual impact. There are also affinities with European comic graphics and the clear line, from Hergé to modern editorial illustration. In my paintings, I depict interiors, architectures, figures, and travel scenes—such as roads, vintage cars, or landscapes—approached from a graphic perspective reminiscent of posters and illustrated books, but transferred to the realm of painting on paper and canvas. I aim for each image to function like a frame or a narrative poster, capable of suggesting a broader story without needing to explain it.
