Frida's works have been highly sought after in recent years.


Frida Holleman was born in Leiden in 1908. In her youth she fell ill and was forced to leave secondary school. Between 1923 and 1930 she attended the Royal Academy of Visual Arts in The Hague, where she took drawing lessons with Henk Meyer. Under his influence she mainly painted nude figures in large, sculptural, monumental forms. In 1930 she left for Cornwall in England to take watercolor lessons with Stanhope Forbes. Afterwards she stayed briefly in Paris at Adrien Holy's studio, who advised her to paint 'layer by layer'. Back in The Hague she asked the well-known painter Toon Kelder for guidance.
