✦ WORLDWIDE FREE SHIPPING ✦ RATED EXCELLENT
A compelling Baroque depiction of David and Goliath, capturing the dramatic aftermath of the young shepherd’s victory over the Philistine giant. The composition is organised around the monumental fallen body of Goliath, whose muscular form dominates the foreground. To the right, David is shown as a youthful hero, sword raised in triumph and holding the severed head of his adversary, while soldiers and standards emerge from the shadows behind, emphasising the military and biblical significance of the scene.
Likely executed by a Continental European artist working within the Italianate Baroque tradition. An attractive and decorative example of 17th-century religious art, presenting one of the Old Testament’s most celebrated themes with considerable dramatic appeal and period character.
