With this square-format work, Medsan signs a double exposure of great finesse, letting portrait and landscape dialogue. The profile of a geisha, her hair adorned with refined kanzashi, becomes a dreamlike window: her hair and torso fill with a marine landscape where a lighthouse, gnarled pines, and the powerful swell of The Great Wave emerge. A few birds cross the patinated paper background, accompanied by discreet calligraphy. This unique print draws from the traditions of watercolor and Japanese ink painting (sumi-e).

The visual strength of the composition lies in its treatment entirely in washes and transparencies: the pigments diffuse freely on a textured paper, in a palette of deep Prussian blue enhanced by golden ochres — echoing the legendary indigos of Hokusai. The mise en abyme of the landscape within the silhouette lends the whole piece a poetic and enigmatic dimension.
