Medsan's Raiju Pikachu (雷獣ピカチュウ), a 40 × 60 cm giclée on canvas, hand-signed, 2026, a unique 1/1 edition from France, depicting Pop art in a Japanese ukiyo-e inspired motif with a thunderous Pikachu over a snowbound fishing village.
Description from the seller
There is only one in the world - EDITION 1/1
With this vertical-format work, Medsan transforms the most famous of Pokémon into a legendary creature, in the pure tradition of the Japanese print. A giant Pikachu, crackling with lightning and with a fierce gaze, rises above a snowy fishing village: wrecked boats, nets, houses with whitewashed roofs and a turbulent sea under a setting sun. The cartouche designates it as « 雷獣ピカチュウ » (Raijū Pikachu) — Pikachu as a thunder beast. This unique print brings pop iconography to the heart of Edo-period Japan.
The visual force of the composition lies in its fidelity to woodblock printing: delicate line work, snowflakes falling in fine specks, stylized sea and twilight gradations in the manner of Hiroshige’s winter scenes. The contrast between the familiar roundness of the Pokémon and the gravitas of the ancestral setting creates a striking otherness.
The artwork’s impact rests on its fertile ambiguity: this raijū — a thunder creature from Japanese folklore — is it here to devastate the village or to protect it? Destructive force or tutelary deity (mamorigami), Pikachu embodies the double nature of nature spirits, between threat and benevolence. A mythological reinterpretation full of tension.
A graphic piece, original and full of charm, ideal for adding a pop, legendary, and distinctly contemporary touch to a collector’s interior — a real favorite for fans of both Japanese culture and pop culture.

About the Atelier:
Atelier Joconde is a collective of artists brought together around a vibrant, plural contemporary creation. Established as a genuine artistic production space, the studio works both in collaborative creation and in individual approaches, depending on projects and artworks. Atelier Joconde is also a family venture. Le Yack, a contemporary figurative painter, develops a narrative and introspective body of work with cinematic and realistic influences. Beside him, Medsan, oriented toward pop art painting, explores color, modern iconography, and visual culture. Finally, Neo Pablo follows a more instinctive path, blending abstract art, outsider art, and figurative abstraction. Each work is conceived, created, and followed within the studio, with a shared artistic standard and an identity of its own for each artist.
