L'Éveil opens in a Parisian hotel room in the first hour of morning, when the light has not yet decided what it wants to be and Paris begins to wake without hurry. Through the open window, the Eiffel Tower rises in the golden sky as if it were always like this, as if it knew nothing.

Standing by the window, a nude man looks out at the city. He wears only white socks, the single domestic detail that survived the night. He does not reach for the coffee waiting on the balcony table. He does not move. There is something in the way he looks at the Tower that is not admiration. It is something older and harder to name.

In the armchair behind him, the second man watches. He holds his cup, his body relaxed, his gaze fixed on the other man's back. He does not look at Paris. Paris does not interest him now. What interests him has its back turned and does not know, or pretends not to know, that it is being watched.

The unmade bed to the right is the only testimony of what happened before this morning. Nobody straightened it. Nobody was in a hurry to erase what was written in the folds of the sheets.

The artwork explores themes such as awakening and the silence after intimacy, the unreturned gaze, the distance between two bodies in the same space, the city as indifferent witness and the suspended moment between night and day, rendered through a contemporary figurative visual language with dawn light and classical compositional structure.
