Work description:
With “Young Nude,” Peter Robert Keil presents one of the characteristic female figures from his early 1980s creative phase. The work combines expressive freedom, color intensity, and a deliberately reduced formal language into a composition full of life energy and immediate presence.
The standing figure is depicted frontally and almost occupies the entire image plane. The luminous colors – vivid blue, intense green, radiant yellow, pink, red, and white – give the painting an extraordinary radiance. The striking black contours surround the shapes like spontaneous drawings and create the typical dynamism that has made Keil’s work internationally known.
Particularly striking is the large red bow in the hair, which gives the figure a playful, almost theatrical effect. The combination of expressive simplification and monumental representation creates a remarkable balance between humor, sensuality, and artistic freedom.
The intense green background further enhances the figure’s brilliance and makes it practically leap out of the picture. Despite the stylized portrayal, the work conveys a strong human presence and emotional directness.
The composition exudes joie de vivre, directness, and artistic immediacy – a tribute to color itself and an optimistic statement for any collection.
His artistically talented mother fought to move with her son to West Berlin in the final phase of the war, where the two settled after the war. There Keil grew up in the working-class district of Berlin-Wedding and soon discovered his interest in painting – especially in expressionist artists and the works of Pablo Picasso. The painter Otto Nagel, who came from East Berlin, became his mentor from around 1954 and taught him first manual skills and painting techniques.
