Atrani, a 2020+ oil painting on panel by Vincenzo Caiazza (Italy), signed by hand, in excellent condition, measuring 40 cm high by 80 cm wide, depicting a maritime landscape of the Amalfi Coast.
Description from the seller
In this oil painting on panel titled "Atrani", a work by the painter Vincenzo Caiazza. The panoramic XL format of 40x80 cm enhances the spectacular coastal expanse of one of the most characteristic and evocative villages of the Amalfi Coast.
The work offers a view with a strong scenic impact, capturing the perched village that faces directly onto the sea:
The coast and the village (on the left): The composition develops from the left side, dominated by the typical white and colorful houses of the town, perched above the sea. On the far portion there is a rich Mediterranean vegetation with vibrant shades of green and touches of pink-violet that recall the bougainvillea blooms.
The monumental architecture (in the center): Stands out the distinctive stone-arched structure, which serves as a imposing base and connecting element between the town and the water, topped by the towering silhouette of the Collegiata di Santa Maria Maddalena with its bell tower, a true visual hub of the village. A foreground arch creates a suggestive suspended bridge over the cliff.
The sea and the background (on the right): More than half of the canvas is dominated by a vast and deep sea expanse colored ultramarine blue, whose ripples reflect the sunlight and the profiles of the arches. In the distance, broad and majestic mountains rise against a clear sky, fading into blue and violet tones that give a sense of extraordinary depth—prospective and atmospheric richness to the whole scene.
Caiazza’s painterly approach combines figurative precision with a nearly impressionistic sensibility:
The color application: The painting presents a rich matteriness, typical of oil, laid on with decisive and at times robust brushstrokes (especially visible on the water’s surface, on the rocky walls and on the mountains in the background), capable of giving volume and dynamism to the forms.
Use of light and color: The color contrast is sharp and bold. The vibrant, almost hypnotic blue of the sea provides a perfect counterpoint to the warm pastel tones of the houses (cream, pink, ochre) and the dazzling white of the sunlit facades. The sunlight seems to come from the left, fully illuminating the village and leaving the majestic mountain range in the background in a soft partial shadow.
At the bottom right the artist’s signature is visible, elegantly traced on the dark tones of the sea. The work fully conveys the luminous atmosphere, the quiet, and the timeless charm of the Amalfi Coast.
