Description from the seller
Suggestive and rare devotional candelabrum for an altar (or floor) with 5 flames, entirely forged and hand-hammered in solid wrought iron. A work of sacred artistic carpentry of great charm, dating from the 20th century.
The object is an imposing synthesis of faith and traditional craftsmanship, rich in a complex symbolic ornamentation:
The Evangelical Inscription: On the iron band, forged with a raised cartouche, the famous Latin phrase from the Gospel of Luke is hot-stamped: "IGNEM VENI MITTERE IN TERRAM" ("I have come to bring fire on the earth"), a profound theological reference that perfectly matches the original function of the object.
The Central Symbolism: At the center, within a Revival-style arched shield, stands the stylized figure of the Dove of the Blessed Spirit facing downward, crowned by the Marian monogram "AM" (Ave Maria).
Decorations: The upper part is enriched with volutes and elegant pinecone/flamelike terminals crafted in a barley-twist pattern. The tripod triangular base ensures excellent stability and is also finely decorated.
Manufacture: High-quality traditional artistic carpentry; all structural elements are joined, forged, and riveted by hand hot-worked. The original patina of the period is fully preserved.
Material: Solid wrought iron
Era: 20th Century (Mid-20th Century / Revival Style)
Number of flames/lights: 5
Vintage condition. The object shows a patina of time with very slight and normal superficial signs that enhance its authenticity and historical character. Very solid, robust, and heavy construction (approximate weight 670 g).
