Description from the seller

Religious Art Deco medal in 18-karat gold and solid silver, French-made in the first half of the 20th century.

This elegant medal features on the obverse the profile of the Virgin treated in a geometric and pared-down style, characteristic of the Art Deco aesthetic. The architectonic lines framing the portrait give it a strong modernity while preserving the softness inherent to Marian representations of the era.

The reverse is engraved with the stylized initials « JL » as well as the date « 22 Juin 42 ». The quality of the engraving and the particularly meticulous drawing of the letters attest to the decorative refinement sought during that period.

The medal is made of 18-karat gold and solid silver. It bears the French guarantee hallmark for pieces combining gold and silver, recognizable by the meeting in a single hallmark of the eagle head and the boar head. This hallmark officially certifies the presence of both precious metals in the piece's manufacture.

Dimensions with bail: about 2.7 cm x 1.7 cm.

Weight: about 2.2 grams.

Excellent condition with a pleasant antique patina. This medal is notable for its typiquement Art Deco elegance, the fineness of its execution, the quality of its precious materials, and its personal character added by its old engraving. An authentic piece of French religious jewelry from the 20th century.
