Large antique Burmese Kalaga tapestry with a three-dimensional effect
from the Mandalay region in Myanmar (Burma)
Featuring a very detailed colorful triumphal procession and a mythological battle scene from ancient Ramayana Sanskrit legends with several figures of noble warriors, probably Rama and princes riding elephants.
It consists of very dense appliqué and intricate Burmese thread, beads and sequins, almost entirely covered as a base in golden colors, with a combination of brocade metallic and plain threads, richly fine-meshed needlework, hundreds of small glittering sequins.
