Statement:
By staying away from the actual reality around us, I try to evoke a nostalgic atmosphere. Atmosphere and space are not defined by a multitude of realistic details but rather by simplicity, often a sober color palette, so that a certain color accent draws all the attention. Recurring visual features, such as shadows, volumes, an accent color, strong contrast, nostalgia, and humor are important recognizable aspects in my work, with emotions playing an increasingly prominent role. Through technique, there is a search, with different executions in technique, to probe the boundaries of recognizability (realism), wherein moviestills from old films (Film Noir) and old documentary material serve as an important source of inspiration and a basis for an initial design. And without losing recognizability and realism, the work must above all be a beautifully painted piece, for the viewer’s experience and the intended viewing distance.
