Description from the seller

Bartolomeo Eustachi

Tabulae anatomicae.

Beautiful and rare edition, printed in Rome, published by S. Laurentius & Th. Pagliarini, from the year 1728.

Second Rome edition, first with the portrait of Cardinal Albano.

The anatomical plates of Bartolommeo Eustachi were completed in 1552, but remained forgotten and unpublished in the Vaticana until Pope Clement XI entrusted them to his personal physician Lancisi for publication, who published them for the first time in 1714. The plates show, among other things, the chest, the nervous system, various organs and vascular structures.

Bound in a contemporary interim paper binding. With engraved title vignette, engraved dedicatory portrait, and 47 copperplates.

COLLATION: 28 roman-numbered pages, 79 pp., 5 unnumbered leaves.

CONDITION: Good copy with signs of use, good binding. Some finger marks, binding rubbed and slightly stained. Overall a beautiful, clean, untrimmed copy. PROVENANCE: With an engraved ex-libris by Friedrich August von Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel-Oels (1740-1804).
