Description from the seller
Looking for a unique piece for your home bar or an unforgettable gift?
Splendid pair of vintage corkscrews in solid brass, faithful and jovial reproduction of the mythical Manneken Pis, the famous boy symbol and unmistakable emblem of the city of Brussels!
This iconic artifact is inspired by the very famous bronze fountain from 1619 created by Jérôme Duquesnoy. The "boy who pees" embodies for centuries the irony and the independent spirit of the Belgian people. The most famous legend says that the little protagonist, named Julien, saved Brussels from a hostile siege by urinating on the lit fuse of a bomb, extinguishing it in time. Another story tells of a wealthy merchant who lost his little son and erected the statue at the exact spot where he found him, caught in that quirky moment. From the 1940s and 1950s this irreverent figure became a cult piece of bar design, where the corkscrew’s screw playfully replaces the fountain’s water jet.
A perfect mix of historical charm, antiques and period humor!
Made in solid brass, they have a beautiful patina of time
Ideal for collectors of barware, lovers of vintage, or as an unmissable conversation piece during your dinners with friends.
