Cadaqués Harbour Scene, 1971, oil on canvas, 38 × 47 cm, Spain, by Josep Forts, hand signed, original edition, contemporary coastal scene.
Description from the seller
A charming Mediterranean harbour scene by the Spanish painter Josep Forts (born 1947), executed in oil on canvas and dated 1971.
The composition depicts the iconic coastal town of Cadaqués, one of the most celebrated locations on the Costa Brava and a place long associated with artists, painters and Mediterranean culture. Small fishing boats float peacefully in the foreground while the historic village and church rise above the waterfront, bathed in the warm southern light that characterises the region.
Painted in Forts’ distinctive impressionist manner, the work combines expressive brushwork, luminous reflections and a harmonious palette of blues, lilacs, ochres and warm earth tones. The artist captures both the atmosphere and the poetic tranquillity of the Catalan coastline.
The painting is signed on the front and bears an inscription on the reverse indicating “Cadaqués” and the date 1971, adding further documentary interest to the work.
