Edwardian wedding folding fan dating to circa 1910–1920, made with natural pale horn and cream cotton tulle, hand-embroidered with floral motifs and gold spangles, in its original protective case.
Description from the seller
Edwardian/E Belle Époque Wedding Fan in Blond Horn and Embroidered Tulle with Original Case – Circa 1900-1914
Refined folding fan from the Edwardian era / Belle Époque (dated between 1900 and 1914), probably conceived as a wedding or gala evening fan for high society in the early 1900s.
The lot is exceptionally complete with its original contemporaneous protective case. Made in ultra-light cream-white cotton tulle, adorned with a delicate motif of hand-embroidered flower tendrils. The decoration is enhanced by gold-tone metal spangles (sequins) sewn individually to catch the light. The fabric is intact, with no tears or humidity stains.
The frame consists of ribs and outer guards in natural blonde horn, shaped by heat. It shows the typical translucence and organic grain of the material, completely free of modern plastic-mold junction lines. Extremely light.
The ribs are connected to the base by an original brass rivet fastened by hand while cold. The suspension ring features a very fine period guilloché geometric engraving.
The Original Case: a period rigid, shaped case covered in burgundy/brown-printed paper. The interior is fully lined in cream white silk satin and padded. The box has a front mechanical closure with a brass snap button, original and perfectly functional. An extraordinary collectible set for its integrity and antiquarian preservation state.
