Description from the seller
Artist: Alfredo Grimaldi
Technique: Oil on canvas
Dimensions: 20x40 cm
Style: Naive Post-impressionist
Title: Coastal Splendor from Cascella
In "Coastal Splendor" a vivid and sunny seascape is depicted, rendered with a post-impressionist and pointillist painting technique, rich in color contrasts and clearly visible textural brushstrokes.
In the foreground, along the entire lower edge of the composition, a lush flowering vegetation explodes. This band is defined by a dense interweaving of bright color touches, where the tones of red, pink, orange, yellow and violet prevail, alternated with patches of green and white that suggest a meadow full of wildflowers illuminated by the sun. From this flowering base rise a few trees with slender, dark trunks, symmetrically placed on the sides and toward the center of the painting. Their canopies are created with a layering of rapid brushstrokes in light green, lemon yellow and ochre, giving a sense of lightness and filtered light.
Through the branches of the trees, the gaze is guided toward the central part of the canvas, where a calm sheet of water opens up in blue and sky blue, with silvery and white reflections. On the surface of the water float a few small white sailing boats, suggested with synthetic and geometric strokes. Beyond the sheet of water, arranged horizontally in the background, rises a continuous row of houses and small buildings in ocher, beige and pale pink, typical of a Mediterranean village, with the reddish roofs only faintly hinted.
In the background, behind the settlement, gentle hills or mountains rise, closing the perspective. These elevations are painted with shades ranging from cobalt blue to violet and lilac, creating an atmospheric depth effect. The sky above is a clear light blue, streaked by a few light strokes of a deeper blue that suggest the presence of thin clouds moved by the breeze.
At the bottom left, integrated among the foreground flowers, the artist's signature "A. Grimaldi" is clearly visible, traced in a dark color. The whole scene conveys a sense of serenity, warmth and chromatic vitality, celebrating the beauty of nature and the coast on a sunny summer or spring day.
