Japanese Imari lidded box – porcelain – Meiji period (1868-1912) – Japan

Description

Elegant Japanese Imari lidded box from the Meiji period (1868-1912), crafted in fine porcelain and richly decorated in the characteristic Imari colors: cobalt blue under glaze and iron red with subtle gold accents over glaze.

The lid and the box are adorned with traditional Japanese motifs, including floral decorations, stylized leaves and ornamental cartouches. The harmonious combination of blue, red and gold is typical of export porcelain from the late 19th and early 20th century.

The box features a lovely bulbous form and is fully hand-painted. A decorative and collectible object that fits well in both a Japanese porcelain collection and a classical interior.

Diameter: 12.3 cm
Height: about 7 cm

Condition:
In good antique condition, only a small rim flake on the unglazed inner edge, otherwise totally intact. See photos for an accurate impression of the condition.
