Created in Brittany in 2025, Sauvage II belongs to a series devoted to natural landscapes and the sensorial experience of nature in its raw state. Produced near the Breton coastline, the work is directly inspired by the colors, rhythms, and movements of the plant world observed by the artist during this period.
Dominated by a palette of deep greens, punctuated with touches of yellow, red and black, the composition evokes dense vegetation, illuminated by light and subject to the changes of wind and weather. The vertical drips and the superpositions of material create an effect of organic growth, as if the painting itself followed the dynamics of living things.
A second surface, integrated at the center of the canvas and slightly raised, introduces a dialogue between depth and surface. This device, characteristic of ALGO’s work, creates a visual mise en abyme that invites the gaze to penetrate the space of the work rather than merely contemplate it.
The artist does not seek to depict a specific place but to convey a sensation: that of immersion in free, abundant, and ever-transforming nature. The broad gestures, the thicknesses of material, and the visible traces contribute to this search for spontaneous painting where control coexists with accident.
Created during the artist’s Breton period, Sauvage II testifies to an approach focused on the relationship between painting matter and the natural world, in a decidedly abstract perspective.
