Aneroid barometer - Brass - Barometer J.Cerf

Aneroid barometer signed Joseph Cerf, in a magnificent veneered mahogany case, decorated with hunting allegories in the Napoléon III / late Victorian style.

Joseph Cerf (1827–1894) was a Belgian engineer-optician and dealer of precision instruments. After working at the Galerie de la Reine in Brussels, he officially established himself at 9, Galerie du Roi on May 5, 1871. He worked there until his death in 1894. His widow and his shop continued to use his name at that exact address until 1897.

The mentioned address (Galerie du Roi, 9 in the Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert in Brussels) allows the object's manufacture to be located with great precision between 1869 and 1897.

The barometer, 20 cm in diameter, functions just as the thermometers do. The silvered dial bears scratches and oxidation marks.
