Made using the thousand-year-old kabazaiku tradition of Akita Prefecture, with natural cherry bark wrapped around a core body and finished by traditional handcraft methods. A practical yet elegant portable smoking set, perfect for folk craft collectors, Japanese-style interiors, or for collectors of modern Japanese mingei (民芸 /folk craft).
The complete set includes three pieces:
Bamboo kiseru (煙管 / Kiseru) pipe: A warm, fine bamboo shaft with delicately crafted copper bowl and mouthpiece at both ends, with smooth, elegant lines.
Tabako-ire (烟草入 /tobacco box): A small cherry bark-wrapped box with natural, rustic grain and warm texture, for holding tobacco.
Kiseru-zutsu (煙管筒 /pipe case): A long cherry bark-wrapped tube for storing the kiseru pipe.
Complete with a wooden ojime (緒締 / Ojime) bead, which can be strung on a cord and worn at the waist – a classic form of traditional Japanese portable smoking accessory.
Kabazaiku is a representative traditional craft of Akita Prefecture, Japan. Each piece is wrapped in natural cherry bark with unique, natural grain patterns – no two pieces are alike. Both moisture-resistant and durably beautiful, it is an important category of Japanese mingei.
Natural age patina, signs of ageing, and wear consistent with period. No restoration. Structurally complete. Overall good condition for its age.
