Lago di Thun (Svizzera), a 19th‑century oil painting by Hippolyte Roux in the Romantic landscape style, depicting a Swiss lake scene.
Description from the seller
Hippolyte ROUX (1852–?)
Lake Thun (Switzerland)
Oil on canvas,
Signed at the bottom
Dimensions: 21x40 cm
Fascinating view of Lake Thun with a chalet in the foreground and sailing boats that animate the calm waters of the lake. In the background unfolds a majestic alpine chain, rendered with delicate luminous tones that suggest a morning or sunset scene.
The composition, balanced and narrative, engages Swiss traditional architecture in dialogue with the natural landscape, in a picturesque vision typical of late nineteenth-century landscape painting. The brushwork is fine and controlled, with particular attention to the chalet’s details and to the atmospheric rendering of the water and the mountains.
A pleasant-to-read work, evocative of the romantic charm of Swiss lake landscapes.
Good overall condition.
The work will be packed with the utmost care using professional materials. Postal shipping is economical but not the most suitable method for works of art: it cannot guarantee the absence of damage, especially for canvases and frames. Upon request, a quote for shipment via professional specialised movers can be provided. Longer transit times and customs duties may also apply to shipments within the EU. In-person pickup in Geneva is the recommended option. In case of return (wrong address, non-payment, unpaid duties, etc.), return and re-shipping costs will be borne by the buyer. Combined shipments available upon request.
