Antique hand-blown glass wasp catcher from France, 19th century, with a glass stopper, measuring 24 cm high and 15.5 × 15.5 cm base.
Description from the seller
Antique mouth-blown wasp trap “gobe-mouches ancien” with glass stopper, France, 19th century
Beautiful and complete antique glass cloche on legs, “gobe-mouches ancien” or “piège à mouches en verre.”
This ingenious ecological tool from the past is not only a functional weapon against wasps, hornets, or flies, but its organic shape also makes it elegantly graceful.
Fill the lower edge with a layer of sweet water, syrup, or beer. Insects crawl along the underside via the inner rim and into the interior. Once inside, the insects fly toward the light (upward), but the glass stopper prevents them from escaping. You’ll still find them at better flea markets and antique markets, but usually without the glass stopper; this one is complete.
The convex glass abdomen rests on three gracefully arranged glass legs, giving the object stability and allowing insects to easily fly in from below to the interior. A rare French 19th‑century model.
Extremely decorative in the veranda or on the kitchen, terrace, or garden table.
Ships professionally packaged and via track & trace
Shipping rate includes handling, energy, environmental, island, insurance, administration and customs costs
