Description from the seller
When you look at my drawing, you are stepping into a deeply intimate, unshielded space. My goal with this piece was to capture a sense of total relaxation and raw, unadorned masculinity—caught from a low, immediate perspective that forces a direct connection between the subject and the viewer.
David reclines, looking directly down at us with heavy lidded, sleepy eyes and a quiet, relaxed expression beneath his mustache. There is no performance here; it is the face of someone completely at ease in their own environment and skin.
I wanted the composition to feel casual and close, so I dramatically foreshortened the leg in the foreground. Rendered in a heavy, textured pink pastel, it thrusts upward into the frame, creating a sense of physical proximity—as if you are sitting right at the foot of where he rests.
I used a vibrant, sunny yellow wash to illuminate his face, chest, and torso, giving the flesh a radiating, internal warmth. To ground this lightness, I brought in blocks of contrasting texture—the soft pink tracing his arm and leg, and a heavy block of purple pastel anchoring the lower right corner.
With a few quick pencil lines to pin down his features and the hair on his body, I left the rest of the page bare. It’s an honest, sun-drenched fragment of a private moment, signed and left to breathe on its own terms.
