Between rocks and sky is an aerial photograph realized by the Italian photographer Sara Zanini, known for her drone work and for her visual research on the forms of the landscape observed from above, where architecture, nature and light merge into compositions with strong panoramic impact.

The image depicts Pietrapertosa, in Basilicata, one of the most evocative villages of the Dolomiti Lucane. The town appears inset among imposing rocky spires, almost suspended between earth and sky. The stone houses and the warm roofs of the village gather at the foot of the vertical walls, creating a powerful dialogue between human presence and the monumentality of nature.

In this photograph, Pietrapertosa emerges as a small inhabited nucleus protected by a crown of rocks. The grazing light illuminates the façades and roofs, while the deep shadows of the forest in the foreground and the dramatic sky in the background heighten the sense of contrast and depth. The composition conveys a almost theatrical vision of the landscape: the village seems to appear suddenly, enclosed between stone, forest and clouds.

The aerial perspective allows the viewer to grasp the unique relationship between the village and the surrounding landscape. From this vantage point, architecture does not dominate nature, but enters into it with force and delicacy, following the shapes of the mountain and adapting to its verticality.

The image sits between landscape photography, aerial photography and fine art photography, transforming a real place into a composition of almost epic character, where light, rock and architecture build an intense and timeless visual narrative.
