European Pocket Watch "Argentan" with 24-Hour Dial (c. 1890–1915)
Lot Description:
Exquisite open-face pocket watch, classic European craftsmanship at the turn of the century (circa 1890-1915). A collectible piece that stands out for its robust engineering and the aesthetic appeal characteristic of the Edwardian and railway era.
Case and Identification: Original case engraved with the registered mark Argentan (historic alloy of alpaca/silver, German origin), renowned for its high durability and a polish that emulates sterling silver. Features the production numeric seal 65.
Dial and Hands: Elegant white enamel dial with dual time indication: black Roman numerals for the 12-hour format and a distinguished cobalt blue inner scale for the 24-hour military format. Fitted with intricately filigreed gold hands in the Louis XIV style and a small seconds subdial at 6 o’clock.
Movement: Manual-wind mechanical movement of Swiss or French origin with brass gilded bridges. Incorporates the historic push-button setting system (pin-set) and a regulator for rate (Retard/Advance).
