Description from the seller
Goyard Aîné Paris – Luxury travel vanity case / briefcase with initials J.M. – France, circa 1920-1940
Antique French vanity case or travel briefcase attributed to Goyard Aîné Paris, made of wood veneered with metal hardware and original leather handle.
The piece preserves its personalized initials “J.M.” on the lid, as well as the original interior straps with buckles marked “Goyard Aîné Paris,” accompanied by mentions of Monte-Carlo, Biarritz and Paris.
The interior retains its original securing straps and a detachable metal accessory. The construction, materials and finishes are consistent with French luxury travel items from the first half of the 20th century.
Likewise, it retains old travel labels that add historical and documentary interest to the piece, including a transportation label from Allied Van Lines and a partial label from the United States Customs Service, testimony to its use on international travel throughout its history.
It presents an attractive patina of age and signs of wear in line with the passage of time, including wear to the exterior veneer, surface marks and aging of the hardware and leather handle. These elements are part of the authenticity and character of the piece.
A highly interesting item for collectors of luxury luggage, historical travel items and pieces related to the prestigious maison Goyard.
Condition: Good, with normal signs of use and age. Sold as seen in the photographs.
Origin: France.
Era: circa 1920-1940.
