Description from the seller

For sale, a mandolin by Raffaele Calace, made in 1909 for sale in France through Jérome Thibouville Lamy. A witness to the special relationship between Calace and France, this mandolin, in addition to its manufacture, aesthetics and tonal quality, reflects an era when Italians and French joined to meet the great demand for the mandolin.

Technical features:

Top: Spruce
Back: Cedar (Lemonwood)
Sides: Jacaranda (bindings in jacaranda)
Neck: Veneered in jacaranda
Fingerboard: Jacaranda
Nut width: 27 mm
Radius: Flat
Frets: 18 frets
Scale length: 330 mm
Profile: Neapolitan
Label: Jacaranda varnished
Country of manufacture: Italy, Naples
Year: 1909
Finish: Natural

Decorations: 5-layer ivory and ebony purfling on the edge of the top and 9-layer purflings on the edge of the soundhole / Fret markers in white mother-of-pearl circles

Details: Normal signs of wear due to age / Very good condition

As with all our instruments, this mandolin has been fully restored and carefully set up.

In addition, it offers a very pleasant playing comfort, with low action, allowing flexible playing without losing the dynamics of the sound.

With a subtle and balanced sound, rich in harmonics and with good projection, reflecting the instrument’s generous tonal quality, this mandolin is ideal for all enthusiasts, collectors and/or mandolin players.
