Grande paesaggio alpino con torrente e baite, an oil on canvas landscape by E. Szyttniuk (Ukraine), dated to 1950–1960, 80 × 120 cm, signed, original edition, in good condition and sold with the original wooden frame.
Description from the seller
A splendid and imposing oil painting on canvas executed between the 1950s and 1960s (mid-20th century), by painter E. Szyttniuk, an artist of Ukrainian origin and representative of the Eastern European landscape school of the twentieth century.
The composition, with a grand, scenographic scope thanks to its generous dimensions, depicts a suggestive and luminous Alpine landscape inspired by the great European mountain ranges.
In the foreground, the artist describes with energetic, rich, and tactile brushwork a rushing stream winding between rocks, accompanied by a characteristic wooden fence with a rustic little bridge.
In the background, perfectly nestled in verdant valleys, typical mountain huts (chalets) rise, dominated by rocky peaks, and a partially cloudy sky rendered with great realism.
The work is distinguished by excellent color rendering, the contrast between the cool tones of the water and the warm tones of the vegetation, and the richness of the details typical of East-European landscape production of the mid-century.
The work is presented in generally good condition consistent with the period, with slight and normal signs of time on the painting's surface that attest to its authenticity. The large, period-appropriate wooden frame is included in the lot as a courtesy.
