Jakub Nowicki, Figure 17, oil painting (40 × 30 cm), 2026, hand signed, original edition, portrait in the symbolism style, provenance United Kingdom, excellent condition.
Description from the seller
In Figure 17, Jakub Nowicki presents the human body with remarkable restraint and sensitivity. Seen from behind and emerging from a dark, atmospheric ground, the solitary figure becomes less a portrait of an individual and more a meditation on presence, vulnerability and introspection.
Rendered with subtle transitions of light, the exposed back appears almost sculptural against the gestural, abstract surroundings. The tension between the carefully observed anatomy and the fragmented painterly surface creates a dialogue between realism and memory, revealing Nowicki’s ability to balance classical draftsmanship with contemporary expression.
The absence of facial features shifts attention toward posture and gesture, allowing the viewer to project their own emotions onto the scene. The work evokes themes of solitude, contemplation and the quiet dignity of the human form.
With its muted palette and intimate scale, Figure 17 belongs to Nowicki’s ongoing exploration of psychological space, where the body becomes both subject and vessel for emotional experience.
