Description from the seller

Erika Van Rupp is a Dutch Artist born in August 93 in Holland. She is now living in Lisbon and has various exhibitions made in Portugal and Holand.

This painting is part of a Diptic, Lovers I and II

This work is an expressive, semi-abstract portrait rendered in loose, gestural brushstrokes. It depicts a seated human figure turned slightly away from the viewer, with the head tilted downward in a contemplative or introspective pose. The body is only partially defined, emerging from layers of sweeping black, gray, white, and beige paint.

The artist uses a muted neutral palette—soft creams, taupes, charcoal blacks, and cool grays—which gives the piece a calm yet emotionally charged atmosphere. Thick and thin paint applications combine with drips, smudges, and unfinished edges to create movement and rawness. Rather than focusing on precise anatomy or facial details, the painting emphasizes mood and emotion through texture and contrast.

The composition feels modern and minimalist, with large open areas surrounding the figure that enhance the sense of solitude and vulnerability. The abstract treatment allows viewers to interpret the subject emotionally rather than literally, making the work feel intimate, reflective, and atmospheric.
