Description from the seller
Frans Manders (1939) - Flower Still Life
Oil painting
- Unframed (height x width): 40 cm x 50 cm
- Framed (height x width): 53 cm x 63 cm
Frans Manders was born on 8 January 1939 in Helmond. Frans is self-taught and did not establish himself as an independent artist until 1978. Initially he worked as a graphic designer and illustrator. He had studied advertising and publicity at the Academy for Industrial Design in Eindhoven, where he, among others, studied under painter Kees Bol. Later he took lessons from the draughtsman Otto Dicke and the painter Dorus van Oorschot. The latter artist from Schijndel was decisive for the direction Manders would take: the tradition of the Barbizon School and the Hague School.
After his studio burned down in 1995, his work changed markedly. His paintings became increasingly colorful and abstract. He regularly worked in Provence (Vaucluse), where he developed his style and color palette into a true Impressionist. Manders is primarily a (traditionally trained) landscape painter who paints from feeling. Especially with his Brabant works he earns much acclaim. He was knighted on his 70th birthday.
In the Peter van den Brakencentrum, his recent work is shown. The subjects of the paintings vary from French and Brabant landscapes (including sunsets) to water lilies, flower still lifes and harbor scenes. The artist is present every Sunday.
