A porcelain Prunkschale by Schierholz Plaue from Germany, dating ca. 1910–1920, measuring 31 cm wide, 19 cm high and 18 cm deep, featuring a pierced bowl held by a galant couple in period dress with Rocaille decoration, rose appliqués and internal floral bouquet; in excellent condition with minor wear, gold loss and two tiny chips on the leaves.
Description from the seller
This extraordinary figurative display bowl was crafted around 1910 by the renowned Schierholz Plaue porcelain manufactory in Thuringia. The artistically designed object combines the manufactory's characteristic features: finely modeled figures, rich Rocaille decor, openwork forms, elaborately worked rose appliqués, and elegant gold accents.
At its center is a perforated bowl held by a gallant couple in historical attire. The depiction draws on the popular Rococo theme for which Schierholz became internationally known. Especially noteworthy are the plastically executed rose festoons that encircle the bowl and were carefully hand-sculpted and hand-painted. The base is further decorated with musical instruments, a music book, and other decorative elements, creating a romantic, festive scene.
Inside the bowl lies a finely executed bouquet of flowers in polychrome painting. The combination of delicate reticulation work, three-dimensional blossoms, and figural design makes this piece an impressive example of German porcelain art from the early 20th century.
The Schierholz Plaue porcelain manufactory was one of the most important producers of decorative luxury porcelain of its time and exported its wares worldwide. Comparable figural bowls with rose appliqués are today among the sought-after collector’s items from the manufactory.
The bowl shows age-related loss of gold. The flowers and leaves are in very good condition. Two minimal chips on the leaves.
