The Question of Still Waters is a 2026 original acrylic painting on canvas by Devon (1993) from the United Kingdom, depicting an animal subject of a swan in a naive art style, measuring 30 by 30 cm, signed and unframed and ready to hang.
Description from the seller
In The Question of Still Waters, Devon reduces the swan to its most essential form, transforming a familiar symbol into a meditation on uncertainty, solitude and quiet reflection. Against a luminous green ground, the elegant curve of the swan’s neck is interrupted by a solitary circular form, introducing an unexpected note of ambiguity.
The punctuation-like motif invites multiple interpretations. It may suggest an unanswered question, a moon reflected on water, an egg, or a memory suspended in time. As in much of Devon’s work, meaning is deliberately left open, allowing the viewer to complete the narrative through personal association.
Executed in acrylic and pastel, the painting balances simplicity with emotional depth. The soft, textured surface and restrained palette evoke folk art traditions while maintaining a distinctly contemporary sensibility. Through minimal means, Devon creates a work that speaks about introspection, longing and the beauty found in unanswered questions.
Painted in acrylic and pastel on canvas, this original work is presented unframed and ready to hang.
